Sensible Shoes Sunday: Return Visit

A short and sweet post today. Regular ECHID reader London Lady wrote to say

while I absolutely love the hot 4+ inch heeled clogs, I cannot safely wear them. There are so many uneven pavement stones in London that I have crashed and burned on wearing flat shoes!!! Can you feature uber hot clogs with heels no higher than 3"?

I keep my eyes open for clogs of all heights, but let me commit myself to redoubling my efforts to find some fun looks without a lot of elevation. In the meantime, allow me showcase some photos of sensible shoes from the collection of fellow Illinois clog fan and regular ECHID reader. Unfortunately, these shoes aren't for sale anywhere at the moment. But as I always like to say, just knowing that they existed once upon a time makes me feel good.

Sensible Shoes Sunday: Sensible Sensibleness

Back when I started this blog I found myself uploading day after day of medium to high heeled clogs. What can I say? They're my true passion. But I want this blog to be an open banquet where all feel welcome. And as a nod to those wooden shoe fans who like their footwear at a more moderate height, I created the Sensible Shoes Sunday category to provide a regular look at low heeled clogs. Unfortunately, after a couple of months, I felt I'd said as much as I could about the subject. It just seemed that I would be fated to start posting the same shoes over and over again. So I quietly dropped the feature and used Sunday as a day to post offbeat topics only tangentially related to footwear made of wood. But looking over my backlog of images I want to put online, I realized that today would be a good day to bring it back. At least for one Sunday. My best intentions are always to post shoes when their listings are currently active on eBay or they're still available in stores, but I'm afraid I sometimes miss that mark. Enjoy these in the spirit in which they're being provided. Knowing that these styles out there means you'll at least know to look for them down the road.

Sensible Shoes Sunday: Georgia Boot

Here we have a line of clogs designed for the truly practical among us. You need a pair of sturdy shoes to keep your feet planted firmly on the basement floor while you're sorting the laundry? A pair that'll take you securely through the undergrowth as you navigate the sidewalk from your back door to your garage? A pair that'll protect your toes from falling cereal boxes and bags of potato chips during your next grocery store run? These could be the clogs for you! 

The Georgia Boot Company has long been known for its rugged, no-nonsense footwear. Their website proudly touts the fact that they've been making all manner of work boots and work shoes for over 60 years. Though they do gloss over the fact that while they're named Georgia Boot, they actually have their offices in Nelsonville, Ohio. I'm not sure what became of this line of clogs for men and women that they manufactured and marketed once upon a time. One faithful Every Clog Has Its Day reader recalls spotting them first in the early 2000s on a shopper at the supermarket. She informed our fellow clog fan of the brand which then led to a brief flurry of stockpiling on his part. Apparently, that hoarding instinct proved valuable considering that now this style is nowhere to be found on the Georgia Boot Company web site.  

   

 

As always, my own inclination is to provide at least some sort of wood soled content with each day's post. While those Georgia Boot clogs are acutely sensible, they are also relatively cellulose free. Which leads me to conclude today with a comparably rugged though gloriously impractical style from the maker London Underground. Now these make me want to go out and get my hands dirty!

Sensible Shoes Sunday: Pain Free Clogs

At last. A line of clogs that won't hurt your feet! 

Can you imagine? No aches in your arches. No pinching of your toes. No blister on the back of your heel from wearing a size too small. No burning in the ball of your foot from too steep an angle. Who'd have thought there could be high heeled shoes out there that would leave your feet so unscathed!

 

 

The only downside is: you can't actually wear 'em yourself.

 

These are, in fact, clogs designed as fashion accessories for Mattel's Barbie doll. And if her impossible proportions and roots free blonde hair weren't enough to envy, there's now the issue of wanting to raid her closet, too.

 

 
 

Forgive me. I'm such a clog fan, I feel my heart skip a beat looking at these molded plastic mules. Even at 1/6 scale, I'm enamored of the chunky platform and massive heel and the saucy tilt to the sole. I'll even admit that I wish they came in my size just so I could try them on. And just look at the selection. We mere humans should be so lucky!

Which leaves us with the question of what would these Barbie clogs actually be like if rendered life size? I'm thinking the legendary Famolare fiberglass clog, style name Amsterdam, comes closest. Such as this pair that sold via Worthpoint.com about 3-1/2 years ago.
