So show us those Outerspace clog booties!

I love the fact that many of you readers are enjoying my daily "On my feet today" updates. It seems like such a no brainer, I wonder why I didn't think of posting that info sooner. I mean, I am fond of clogs and I am fond of wearing them every chance I get, so instead of raving just about how much I love the shoes it makes sense to talk about how much I put them on my feet, too. In fact, today regular reader Kelly wrote in to say

I see lots of posts on the Outerspace by BC Footwear, but couldn't find any photos of your pair. Can you post some or send me some or point me to where they are on your blog? I'd love to see how you wear them.

To which I can only reply: busted! A quick tally of the Search results for Every Clog Has Its Day shows that I've worn those Outerspace clog booties nearly two dozen times since I got them at the end of October. And for someone with more pairs in my closet than I'm willing to admit even to a gathering of similarly addicted shoe fans, that's a lot! But what sort of coverage have I actually given this very enjoyable and flexible style? Almost nada. One tiny listing as part of a What's New? post at the beginning of September. (You'll have to look closely to spot it—it's no. 19 in a long list of new styles.) And that's the only recognition I've given this truly satisfying style.

Today it is time to make amends.

I have known about this sweet and simple clog bootie since before Labor Day. But since the shoe was constructed on a manmade midsole, I really didn't give it a second thought back then. Forward the videotape to mid-October when I was visiting my daughter in New York City for her birthday, and while I was enjoying an afternoon in Manhattan with her, I noticed a young woman wearing the Outerspace bootie with tights and a skirt. And right then, something clicked in my head (or wherever the chemicals that control desire are located), and I immediately realized two things. One, that the Outerspace clog bootie from BC Footwear was pretty damned cute. And two, that I would have to order myself a pair at the next available opportunity.

And so I did.

 

As I mentioned to Kelly, I tend to throw this style on my feet with jeans or cords or something casual. It can be dressed up a bit (as the woman I saw in NYC demonstrated), but I have other clogs I gravitate towards for that. I tend to think of it as a knock around in the slush and snow shoe. And I don't mean trudging through snowbanks or wading through slushy streets. It's just that given that it wasn't particularly expensive and that the midsole in manmade, I don't mind stepping out of my car in a snow filled parking lot with this pair on. 

 

One word to the wise: the material of that manmade midsole just doesn't handle the wear and tear of regular use like wood does. A favorite pair of clogs tells a story about the places you've been. But with plastic shoes, they just look dinged up. You can see in the photos below how the daily use my Outerspace booties have received has ended up revealing the lighter colored plastic beneath the darker exterior. Not a great look in my book. But like I said, they weren't expensive and I intended to give them plenty of use.

The final verdict is that I do love this clog bootie. (Currently available in most sizes from either endless.com or the BC Footwear site itself...though you have to dig under Boots to find them.) Many readers' reviews I've come across on various retail sites echo my own opinion: this is both a good shoe for the money, and it puts a unique style within easy reach of many of us consumers. I'll be wearing mine to death. And I'm sure there'll come a day when I wished I'd purchased a back up pair. You can't give a pair of shoes a more glowing endorsement than that!

[On my feet today:  Nope, not the Outerspace clog bootie from BC Footwear. They're at my local cobbler getting new heel caps put on them. Instead, I'm wearing my Björn boot clogs today. Not Born, Björn. They're made by a small clog manufacturer located in Yorkshire, England. Just a simply constructed ankle boot upper affixed to a traditional Swedish clog wooden sole. Can't beat it for the price.]

I can see why you love these. I have been living in a pair of Sanita Gertrude clog boots which are kind of chunky but I adore them. I am wondering if you might do a piece on what your fellow clog junkies have snagged in recent holiday sales. I got a pair of Kurt Geiger clog boots that I have had my eye on for months at less than half price. Is it OK to send you a url? I sent one in a post a while ago but it was deleted. Don't want to violate any rules.

I've been coveting those Kurt Geiger clog boots from this side of the Atlantic.  Please send the URL.  But I'd also love to get a personal snapshot of yourself in your new shoes.  (From the knees or waist down is fine.  Or from the ankles if you're really shy.) 

I'd love a pair of the Sanita clog boots, too, but they run small and I'd need a size larger than the largest they make.  That brand has broken my heart many a time.

The Red or Dead Helga clogs are new to me!  Thanks for pointing them out.  They're definitely worthy of a post all on their own!

And yes, I would love to see shots of your Kurt Geiger clog boots in action.  The Singapore had me staring longingly toward England for days when it first made its appearance online.
