Snow flurries in the forecast through the weekend where I live. Thank the fashion gods that they've dreamt up boots like these to keep us warm and cozy. Though you're allowed to lust after them if it's sunny and warm in your part of the world. Who knows? With the climate in the unpredictable state it's in, they might come in handy in Miami or San Diego someday.
The brand is Frye and the style name is Ella. Astute clog fans will recognize the wood sole as something featured on a number of designs from this maker. I first spotted them in a Victoria's Secret catalog long ago and was instantly riveted by the look. Then just as instantly mortified by the price. It took the passage of time to heal those wounds...and the eventual surfacing of a pair close to my size on eBay. Good things do indeed come to those who wait sometimes.
I actually owned this very pair once upon a time, but ended up selling them to make way for other delights. To be honest, the voluminous shearling shaft on the boot always presented a puzzle. It was too big to be hidden under pants. Too bulky to be out on its own. I loved the look...and apparently a lot of other clog fans did, too, judging from how well the style sold. But then maybe they didn't know what to do with the boot when they got it either. To be honest, I never saw anyone on the street in a pair of these. You'd think they'd have been a natural in the slush and snow of northern Illinois.
