Day 13...and Sunday Flea Market

very day a different pair of Sven Clogs in the spotlight this month. And could you tell I had some fun pairing certain styles with certain days? Obviously men's styles made sense on Guy Day Friday. And then for Sundays I tried to pick clogs that were fancy enough to wear to church. Then down the road, I've got an extra special style set aside for Memorial Day. And what about today, Mother's Day? I'm on the case!

Day 5...and Saturday Flea Market

'm walking on air this weekend. I was busily toiling away on some project or other on Friday afternoon fighting the funk that's been threatening to settle in after the recent loss of a major free lance client, when out of the blue my son sent me an e-mail that chased the clouds away, brought the sunshine streaming in, and put me on the beach with a cooler of Arizona Green Tea at my side. Really. It was that amazing. Of course, I'd love to share the message with you. I'm that proud. But I want to respect my son's right to communicate with me privately. And I want to cherish his sentiments tightly rather than simply turn them into grist for my blog. So what I will tell you is that his message was an eloquent expression of his appreciation of both his parents, the home we made for him and his sister, and the start we've been able to give them as they head off into the world to make their way. It's only some 40 words total including the subject line, "love you both". But thanks to that handful of sentences he wrote, I found myself able to relax in the face of adversity and let go of my troubles for at least an hour or two. No matter what other craziness is raging in other areas of my life, I've done something good raising my kids. And no one can take that away. An old friend always said to me, "Roots and wings. Roots and wings. Those are the two best things you can give your kids." And I so believe it to be true. My analyst even expanded upon the idea by talking about the importance of providing a solid foundation for one's children. Because that gives them something sturdy to push against as they take wing and fly. And this week, I'm getting a glimpse of it happening.

Saturday Flea Market for April 28, 2012

hooey. I couldn't find the perfect video to accompany this post. Actually, it wasn't the video I was looking for. It was the audio. When I think of the times I've taken my kids to see fireworks on the 4th of July, I can hear the explosions in my mind's ear and the musical soundtrack that sometimes accompanied them. But I also can hear the reactions of the crowd around me.

"OOooo!"

"Aahhhhh!"

"OoohhhHHH!"

"Yeaahhhhh!"

And that's just what I wanted to provide you with today. A brief YouTube video that I would have embedded right up top here. And then I would have instructed you to click play and immediately commence to scroll slowly down the page. As each new vintage clog came into view, your own personal reaction would have been complemented by the general astonishment of the gathered masses at the wonders they were beholding. I mean, isn't that what you feel sometimes when you happen upon a collection of photos of intriguing footwear? Sometimes it's all I can do to keep from clapping when I come to the end.

Saturday Flea Market for April 21, 2012

ah! That's all I have to say! It was that kind of a Friday. And I didn't have to pay to have my basement sewage pump replaced as one of my readers told me she had the pleasure of doing. Now that would suck. No pun intended. At least it didn't come to the full one thousand dollars the plumber had forecast. The final damage was only six hundred bucks. So she did what most of the rest of us would do. Took that four hundred dollars she saved...and spent it on something else.

Oddly enough, it wasn't shoes.

Oh, well. We all have our occasional lapses of judgment.
