That question popped into my head as a good starting point for this post. I was going to use it as a springboard to talk about the ongoing thrill of discovering new shoes. But before I could get there, I was swept off into another direction entirely. Because the first answer to that actual question that came into my head was: "Coming up on five years, I think."
And then another chimed in, "Wait. Not five years. Wasn't it August of 2009 when I started Every Clog Has Its Day?" And with a quick bit of figuring from the neurons that handle computation, I revised the reply to: "Coming up on six years, actually. Though I did take a year off."
Then the part of my brain that handles promotions and marketing put a Post-It note on the mental bulletin board to remind me to be thinking about some special post to celebrate that anniversary when it arrives. And that led to a gestalt moment when it occurred to me that there might another anniversary worth celebrating sometime soon.
Didn't I say goodbye and put this blog on hiatus early in 2014? And didn't I bring it out of mothballs around the same time last year? When was that? Wasn't it in the spring? Wasn't it in, like, April?
(Goes to check listings in the Archives page.)
Hey, it was April. April 27th, actually. Of last year.
OMG! That was exactly a year ago!
It takes me awhile sometimes, but I like to think that I eventually get there.
So, wow! Can you believe it? I feel like I've only been back online for three or four months, but amazingly it's been an entire year. There've been quite a few new shoes that have come into my world in that time, many of which I've documented here. And I've lived a whole bunch of delightful days putting that footwear to good use. Time does fly when you're having fun. And if you've been following the sutorial exploits on these webpages, you know I've been having a blast!
And I have to say, making it through an entire year with the relaunch is a meaningful milestone. It definitely proves that I can keep this blog going even while holding down a full time job and while managing and making music with a rock band here in Chicago. You and I, we made through our first year together now that I'm back. And that tells me I can just relax and enjoy it and not worry about whether it's possible. It is, in actual fact. And we just proved it!
So happy relaunch anniversary! Have a piece of e-cake and celebrate with me! And don't forget to wear a stunning pair of shoes!

Now where was I? Oh, right. I was initially steering a course toward the topic of discovery and the ensuing delight. As you know, I've been crushing on shoes all my life, clogs and wood-soled variations in particular. And after all those revolutions around the sun, I haven't felt my passion fade in the least. At some point in every week I'm drawn to go on the prowl. I fire up a search engine and type in whatever variation of words seems to promise something new to view. (Clog + boot + platform + high heel or some similar combination.) Or I make a visit to one of the many resale sites that deal in vintage and secondhand goods. Not long ago I uploaded a photo essay on the treasures eBay and now Poshmark have brought into my shoe shelves. Or I take a spin through the craft and vintage marketplace, Etsy, where I've also found it possible to add some impressive footwear finds from fashion times past to my wardrobe rotation. And even, occasionally, to discover a burgeoning shoe maker selling their wares.
The web that is world wide is truly world wide. And things that are happening on the other side of the planet, things we wouldn't even have a clue were going on 15 or 20 years ago are now easily accessible ...and purchasable...with just a few keystrokes.
So stay tuned. I just made the acquaintance of the impressive footwear designer who crafted the tantalizing wood-soled styles you see below. And when you read what she has to say about her own journey into the land of shoes, you'll recognize a kindred spirit!
