It should reach a high of 79° where I live today. Tomorrow it could be 75°. The day after, 91°. Saturday we should see 82°. I've always said if you live in Chicago, you shouldn't expect the weather to get warm and stay warm until the first weekend of June. This year it appears to have arrived a few days early. Those of you who have been sunning your toes in your clog sandals since March please know I have been with you in spirit. But the gods who control the turning of the season in northern Illinois have never granted us much of a spring in all the long years I've lived here. And you'd think my fellow Chicagoans would have learned that by now. But, no. Let the temperature creep upwards from 65°, and people from Aurora to Zion will be sounding off about how glad they are that spring is finally here. Then the inevitable cold front moves through and we're are all back to leather coats and layers. "No, no, no," I want to say. "The nice weather was the anomaly. This cold and wet stuff we're gritting our teeth through in tank tops and shorts? That's the real Chicago spring weather." And just about every year I've been proven right. Except for the strange summer of 2009 when the cosmic department in charge of climatic conditions suffered its own recession or something, and the warmer weather never arrived. You think I'm exaggerating? Here's a blurb The Huffington Post quoted from our local CBS-TV station's website:
The National Weather Service says 2009 has seen the coldest July since the official recording station was moved away from the lakefront in 1942. The average temperature this month in Chicago has been a mere 68.9 degrees.
Put that in your open toed clogs and shiver on it.
Suffice it to say that although this spring has been appropriately chilly, the trend seems to be pointing toward actual heat to keep us company and stripping off the layers for the summer months. And what would we like to be sporting on our feet while we watch the perspiration run down our ice tea glasses on the backyard deck? Well, here are a few ideas.

Not a new style, but the markdown made me want you to sit up and take notice. Originally $398.00, Urban Outfitters has reduced the price to $149.99. That's over 50% off! And considering they have sizes 6, 7, 8, and 10 in stock, it's worth taking a closer look.

[On my feet as I blog: yes, it was warm where I live today, but there was rain in the forecast. When I had something on my feet it was a pair of rubber rain boots. They're just dumb, little knee highs, but on wet days I'm starting to enjoy their squeaky embrace.]
That mark-down price on the JC lace-up clog boot is really good. I take an 8 US, so this is a possible purchase, for sure. Not a big boot person, but dang they'll look good in the cold weather.
The Mias are wonderful. I love any kind of animal print. That Gucci fur-trimmed suede is utterly gorgeous, but at $795, way beyond my budget. Those lace-up JC boots at $150 are more in line with my pocketbook these days!
BTW, we're under a tornado watch here in NYC until 8 p.m. How ridiculous is that when it's 100 degrees outside and hail is expected later on? Hope they're wrong.
