What's New? (as of September 29, 2010)

Maybe it's the change of season. Maybe it's the wearing off of the novelty. Maybe it's my imagination. But it feels as though the initial buzz about clogs is starting to die down. Okay, they're back. Those who don't care for them have weighed in on the matter. Those who think they're the greatest thing since God made feet have stocked our closets full of the latest offerings. So just like any overstimulated member of early 21st century Western civilization, we naturally find ourselves asking, "so what else is on?" I'm not saying the craze is over. Just that the innovative styles and new developments in clog culture don't seem to be arriving as fast and furious as they did a couple months ago. And heck, it's fall. We've got other things that are demanding our attention. Like whether or not I'm going to throw a Halloween party this year. And if I do, what will I wear?

1.  Sisley T-strap clog from Jeffrey Campbell 

Take your clog love to work with this dressy pair of wooden soled T-strap pumps. I spy with my little eye a midsole (see, I'm using those new terms I laid out on Sunday's blog) that appears to have been borrowed from the Jeffrey Campbell Lief and the Erikson clog boots. With so many wooden clogs popping up on the market for well into the hundreds of dollars, it's refreshing to find a genuine wood pair that doesn't come close to three figures. 3.  Peep toe platform clog from Prada

While at the other end of the financial spectrum, the House of Prada continues with their military theme. Thankfully when you pay top dollar for a shoe that bears their name, you get some significant extras. Such as the fact that they're not just camo cloth, but camo calf skin...hairs from the hide and all. And the metallic emblem that graces the outsole to wink up at onlookers with every step. 4.  Geometric wedge ankle bootie clog from Finsk

I agree that the buzz has died down. Or does that mean I have already purchased all of the styles that I was interested in and more? I do like those JC's you posted today. Must check them out.

Fashion clearly comes in cycles, but I cant tell yet if the clog craze is winding down or were just in the eye of the storm with a new surge of winter looks waiting in the wings. When I interviewed Ty McBride from Jeffrey Campbell last summer he had no misgivings that clogs were here to stay. Theyll be hot for a season or two or three, and then something new will capture the imaginations of shoppers. And when that cooling off period arrives, well know weve nabbed a bunch of great looks when they were hot. AND well be around for the eBay sales of all those trend followers who want to purge their clog collections!

Dont jump on that JC pair just yet. Ive got about half a dozen new clog boots Im going to post about on Friday.

Seems to me that "most" designers do a major push for spring and fall, so I would not expect to see a "big reveal" over the next few months. Since fall and winter are my two favorite seasons, I am happy as a clam (whatever the heck that means!) with all the current offerings. Although, the screaming orange Hasbeen laceup boots are already all gone in my size. Plus my new Sanitas don't ship until the end of October, so I still have sculpted fur to look forward to!

I think my own passion for clogs has been well satiated by the variety of offerings this year. To be honest, to indulge myself further at this point would really be to indulge myself to excess. (And I say that with the awareness that I live a comfortable life in one of the wealthiest countries in the world and that even being able to purchase one new pair of shoes places me in a position of privilege among the inhabitants of this planet.) I have enough to satisfy me right now, and I dont feel the need to go chasing after the next fashion thrill. And thats a good place to be.
