One of our own is about to take her career to the next level!
I've profiled fiber artist and clog designer Rabiah Hodges in the past on Every Clog Has Its Day. Her line of Chameleon Clogs has caught our eyes on more than one occasion with her custom woven uppers and inventive adornments. Earlier this year this North Carolina based clog maker suffered a setback when she learned that the factory that was assembling and finishing her designs would no longer handle her business. So as she began scouring the internet for other potential manufacturers, I suggested a handful of companies she might want to contact. It turned out that one of them was Dala Clogs, a company owned by a Swedish couple who wanted to sell their American clog factory to someone in the U. S. with a passion for the project. Long story short: Chameleon Clogs and Dala Clogs are combining forces to become a single entity, CD Clogs. All that's needed is for Rabiah to wrap up her financing and put the deal to bed.
How fun that we get to be standing on the sidelines to root her on! And just read some of the plans she has for this new company:
CD Clogs is not your typical clog making company. We specialize in unique shapes, designs, and textile uppers. All of our work is made in house by real craftsmen and women, trained by master cobblers from Sweden.
Our other unique feature is a workshop area where the weaving studio, painting station, and clog assembly takes place. We are going to allow tours, and can host a variety of classes in this space as well as the normal day to day clog production.
Now you know I'll be doing a big feature on the launch of this new clog company when it finally starts producing shoes. But as I mentioned, there's the issue of getting the final couple thousand dollars of financing squared away. Which is why this post is here today. Sure, Rabiah would love to have you become an investor in her new venture. But in this economic climate, she knows it's a good idea to explore other options, too. So she has set up a website to raffle off a number of goodies. The Grand Prize will be your own custom pair of clogs (your choice of color and style).
First prize will be a custom ribbon clog like the style below.
Second prize is an earring and necklace set donated by Twink Ink Designs.
Such a deal! You pay ten dollars to buy a ticket, and you could find yourself winning a pair of shoes or jewelry worth over ten times as much. And you'll be supporting a worthy clog maker on the verge of an exciting new venture.
For details on how to purchase a raffle ticket, pay a visit to the blog Rabiah has set up for the occasion here. The drawing takes place this Saturday, September 4th at 6:00 P. M. so don't miss your opportunity.
And keep in mind, she's also looking for investors who will be repaid for their contribution to this enterprise in due time. If you like the idea of supporting Rabiah Hodges and CD Clogs in a more substantial fashion, please contact her via e-mail here.
Future home of CD Clogs.
What will someday be the CD Clogs workshop.
Thank you!! The winners will be drawn on Saturday September 4th at 6 pm.
