Today, we're taking a break from the traditional girth and mass that usually defines clogs. Don't get me wrong: I love my chunky wooden shoes. Never met a pair I didn't like in some way. And who among us wouldn't? When you slip your foot into something that's not fabricated of manmade material, there's a communion with something beyond that seems to take place. The feel of the wood, the heft of their weight, the sound they make when we walk. These are the pleasures we indulge in as clog fans. These are the pleasures we crave.
But having said that, I have to recognize that not all clogs are created equal. And neither are clog wearers. Proportion is key when it comes to putting together a look, and we all know there are outfits that look fabulous on the tall and willowy among us and outfits that flatter those who are not. The same can be said of footwear. A big boned, broad shouldered gal can undermine a gorgeous dress by pairing it with teeny, tiny stilettos while a mere wisp of a girl in massive platforms can look like she's lugging around steamer trunks with her feet. It's not without reason that the ancient Greeks identified the golden proportion. There's a sense of rightness when things are in visual balance. That's why God gave us full length mirrors. And that's also why clog makers make such a wide variety of styles.
For today's quick little post, I wanted to share a slim, slender pair of slip-ons created by Matisse. The wood base is nearly as thin as your average leather shoe. And the toe is as pointed as a typical pump. And what about all that detailing on the upper and along the sole. These are truly a remarkable pair. Altogether, the design doesn't put me in mind of Swedish fjords and Dutch windmills. Instead I'm thinking Arabian nights and Persian slippers. They're a size 6 according to the eBay listing of seller mikeshaffer1974, though when I prepared this post on Wednesday, there were zero bids with only a few hours left in the auction. If they catch your eye, click here to see if the original listing has a relisting notice. Or you can contact the seller directly to see if he'll put them online again just for you to Buy It Now.
