What's New? (as of June 30, 2010)

Like we haven't had enough new clog styles to look at this week, right? 

Of course not! 

Seriously, if you can still get your closet door to close, you've still got room for another pair! The question as today's blog hits the web shouldn't be whether to pick up one of the styles pictured below. The question is actually which one!

1.  Rosabella clog boot from UGG Australia

Okay, you know I'm going to include a clog boot in the line up somewhere anyway. Let's just cut to the chase and get it taken care of right off the bat. One of our fellow clog fans (who lives right down the street from the Calleen Cordero store in L. A., lucky girl) wrote in to tell me about this stunning pair in black and chestnut suede that's now available for pre-order from Nordstrom. Never thought I'd be so eager for summer to end. But when fall brings the promise of being able to tuck a pair of jeans into a pair of boots like these, well,...need I say more?

2.  Marge clog from Lucky Brand

To make amends for launching this week's What's New? with a clog boot, I'll get right back to basics with this next pair. It's a sweet little shoe with penny loafer details and the distinctive charm accents at the heel. Pity about the name, though. Thanks to Matt Groening I will forever associate it with a royal blue beehive. Available online directly from Lucky Brand.

3.  Lolly clog from Red or Dead

I know we're about to celebrate Independence Day here in the U. S., but I feel moved to warn you clog fans, "The British are coming! The British are coming!" Brash U. K. fashion footwear designers Red or Dead step boldly into the world of wooden shoes with more than one model worthy of consideration. Let's start with the basics, shall we? First up, a chunky high heeled clog that's comparable to other models featured on Every Clog Has Its Day previously. As always, I say, "The more the merrier." If you can't purchase the style that caught your eye from another maker, it's reassuring to know that someone else, somewhere else may just come along with their own version. Look for the Lolly in black or brown leather or natural suede from Amazon.co.uk and from Schuh.co.uk.

4.  Lara clog from Red or Dead

Of course, once you've designed yourself a working wooden sole, there's no reason not to put it to good use with a sandal upper. Show of your pedicure with Lara and keep that rockin' clog feeling beneath your feet. You can always fall back on the Lolly once the nail polish starts to chip. 5.  Popova ankle boot from Red or Dead

As you know, a good bit of the fun of shoe shopping is the delight of running across an occasional style that's just so out there you have to stop and marvel for a moment. Which is exactly why I've included this unique design...also from Red or Dead,...also available only in the U. K. It's not a true clog, I grant you that, but in the pics of the brown pair, that 15 cm platform definitely looks like it's made of wood. And in my book, that's good enough. 

In the interest of thoroughness, I should also point out that the style surfaced with a covered sole in a variety of colors (some with covered toes). Does it count if the wood sole is obscured by leather? Is simply knowing there's wood under your feet enough? We'll have a poll on this blog and hash that question out someday. 6.  Lukas clog (sic) from N. Y. L. A.

They're calling it a clog on DSW's website, but I vote for the designation sandal. It's a gracefully carved wedge of wood (highly reminiscent of the beautifully sculpted sandals of Mohop Shoes) with a leather upper that nearly encloses the entire foot. I had a good friend who hated heels for their height, but had no fear of wedges. It seems to me a shoe like this would be just up her alley. It's built out of a pretty significant piece of wood, but flowing contours make it appealingly feminine. Available in a full range of sizes in tan and black.

6.  Empiire "cloxford" from Steve Madden

Yep. You read that right. "Empiire." With two 'i's. It's a new style from Steve Madden that has been described on their website as a marriage of a clog and an oxford. A "cloxford." What do you think? Not long ago Adrian Brody and Sarah Polley demonstrated on the big screen that you do have to be careful about what you Splice together. Though in this case, I'm pleased with the results. The wood sole is a must. As are the nail heads. And I do love the heel. Then there's the open instep and lacing to take the style in some new directions. And what about that slingback strap in the rear....

Wait a minute. This isn't a "cloxford." This is a clog plus an oxford plus a slingback. They should have called it a...a...a "sclongbordfax.'

I think I'll stick to blogging.

Those UGG boots are sweet. So many beautiful clogs so little time. It's hard not to purchase in haste.
