I've been sitting on the images of today's featured Miu Miu clogs since I started this blog last August hoping that some additional details about them might surface. The eBay seller trucolors13 didn't have much to tell me. They were listed as merely "vintage leather 70s clogs". No mention of the brand name at all. But I recognized the logo on the heel patch and made a mental note to post them when I found out more.
Well, enough of waiting. Today they're online for you to enjoy. And as you can see, the designers certainly had some fun playing around with the conventions of clogs. The snub toe, the narrower cut, the smaller shaped heel, the decorative instep strap--these all add up to set this style apart from the crowd. I doubt that it dates from the '70s, but I'm happy to be corrected if anyone knows more about this particular shoe.
Seeing this pair of rather un-clog-like clogs got me thinking about other wooden footwear oddities I've run across in years past. So many fun and offbeat styles that I never had the pleasure of getting to know. Makes me feel a wee bit sad. But also appreciative of the cool shoes I have worn and loved. Some of you have already sent me photos of unique styles you've run across. I'm including some of those here and will publish others down the road. If you have any insights to offer on any of the shoes below, please leave a comment. And if you have some pics of shoes you'd like me to post someday, send them my way via the e-mail address available when you click through to my About page.
My daughter spotted this whimsical pair on an online humor site. I tried to track it down using the URL watermark stamped on the photo, but after a half hour of drilling down on various pages (and fighting the temptation to figure out a reason to post some of the funny, yet totally un-clog-related images there), I gave up. Not sure what the caption for this photo would have been, but I'm guessing it had something to do with appropriate footwear for the perfect party hostess.
Years back (in 2007 in fact), I came across this ornately decorated high heeled slide on eBay. At the time I did a poor job of archiving images for posterity so I have no idea who the maker was or what outrageous price this shoe may have sold for. I seem to recall there was high end designer name involved. Prada, maybe. Or Gucci. But again, I welcome being corrected if you know better. I'm having a hard time picturing what event one would wear these to that doesn't involve a red carpet and an Oscar statuette.
You and I have seen seem some pretty distinctive clogs in our time. But for me this high heeled stiletto slide goes somewhere that few shoe makers dare to go. How intriguing! This style actually has a carved point, extending the shoe an inch or so beyond the tip of your toes. What a different design touch! I wonder why more makers haven't explored this unique means of giving clogs a sleeker look. (Sorry, no brand name was recorded when I nabbed this image in 2005, but if you recognize the half obscured name on the heel patch, let me know.)
And who says clogs have to be sky high to be out of the ordinary? A clog fan from my part of Illinois sent me this unusual design. It's a closed heel with all the slip on comfort of a typical clog, yet the squared off sole at both toe and heel make the style something truly different.
And finally, there's this brand, brand new clog boot that I ran across on "As i am ART i am human i am alive...", the blog of fashion groupie and sometime model Jean-Paul Paula (aka Jeaniuss). He writes from Paris that
Acne will be bringing out amazing shoes and pieces in its next collection....All I can say is: I can't wait.
(Original photo posted below along with my own enhancement that looks a lot grainier, but reveals more of the tasty design details.)
Just started following your blog recently and saw my shoes. Cool! Guess who scored those Miu Miu black clogs from Ebay? Me! I really like them...38s, just my size, and I got them for a song. I wear them with pants to work once a week or so, and they're actually pretty comfortable (but not as much as some of my other clogs) and look great. Lots of compliments.
Enjoying my daily fix of clog blogs...Laressa

Did you really??? What a surprise that must have been to see your shoes on yesterdays blog!!! Glad to hear youre enjoying them. I have several Miu Miu clogs, but theyve all been eBay purchases. I cant imagine plunking down full price in the store. Though for some of the newer styles they came out with last fall, I was sorely tempted. Feel free to send a photo of your Miu Mius in action someday! Maybe along with some of your other clogs, too? Im always looking for new material to feature.
Thanks for dropping by!

I'll try to get photos of the Miu Mius in action, along with the rest of the clog collection..Dala, Sanita, Mia, Dansko, Frye and Steve Madden. Gotta get some more :)
Just got a pair of clog/pump/sandal- hybrid thingys from DKNYC called the Yanis, I think. Sleek enough for a dress, but still wooden sole and a little funky. I'll see if I can send pix.

Beware! I may end up featuring YOU in a post!
I Google searched for the DKNYC Yanis...and those are sweet! I totally missed those the first time around.
Love to feature an assortment of your personal collection. Just give me a line or two to say about you. You know, something like sun worshipping, Florida based clog fan.
And do you have my e-mail for sending the pics? You can find it via the About link at the top left of the blog pages.
