Just a quick, out-of-the-blue post for an average workday afternoon. I was sitting here wearing and enjoying a new pair of clogs that arrived earlier this week, and it dawned on me that I ought to share with the class. You may remember the previous post that considered the question of whether or not to wear white shoes after Labor Day. In that day's blog I featured a pair of Matisse Savannah clogs in winter white. And as I loaded the images, I remeber thinking to myself, "I wonder why these don't come in some other color." Well, no Walden Pond for me. 'Cause I sure ain't "thorough". It took a visit to another shoe blogger's web site to alert me to the fact that this sassy style had other hues to offer and that Shopbop would be glad to take my money and send me a pair.
But the story doesn't end there. Eager with anticipation I created an account at Shopbop, checked for my size, and picked out the clogs in black. But just before clicking the Submit My Order button, I noticed that the column for the size was blank. Huh? But I thought I saw my size. A quick check back to the web site revealed that, no, my size wasn't listed there. What about in the brown suede and winter white styles? Not there, either. Huh? I know I can get pretty excited when the urge to shop is upon me, but I still tend to keep a handle on the details. How did I miss that? So for fear that Shopbop would send me an incorrect size, I cancelled the order and proceeded to start again. I went back in my browser's history to pull up the page for these Matisse Savannah clogs, and...what? Now my size is there. Except that when I click to select it, I'm getting an error message that says, "Sorry. That size just sold out."
AAaaarrrggghhhhhh!
Deep breath. Deep breath.
I'm sure the software that keeps track of available stock merely recognized that I had begun to place an order for that lone remaining pair in my size and was in the process of deleting it from the online store. But I had backtracked in my decision making process and the system just needed a little time to catch up.
Deep breath.
I clicked again. And this time no error message. They did exist. It wasn't a mistake. I was able to snag the shoes I wanted in my size (always an added adrenaline jolt for any seasoned shopper--it's like the universe is confirming the decision you've made and reassuring you that yes, this pair has been waiting here just for you) and all was well with the world again. With a few deft strokes of the keyboard, I placed my order and received an e-mail letting me know that these wood and leather beauties would be winging their way to my sartorial arsenal in no time.
Which, in fact, they did. (And the first thing I did as soon as I ripped open the package was to check that they were actually my size!)
So the lesson to be learned here? There are many. Follow your bliss. Don't give up. To thine own self be true. I think these clogs look killer. I'm so glad I ordered them. In fact, I'm experiencing the exact opposite of buyer's remorse. This delicious state I'm in now should be dubbed "buyer's euphoria".
Oh, and one other lesson to be learned: seize the day. A quick spin through the Shopbop web pages for Matisse shoes reveals that as of this writing, the winter white pair is only available in a 10 and the brown suede and black leather size choices are dwindling fast.
